Soho's Adult Scene Has Shrunk but Still Exists
Soho's historic Walker's Court and the surrounding blocks housed the largest adult-entertainment district in London for most of the 20th century. Gentrification, Crossrail-era redevelopment, and tightened Westminster licensing have reduced the scene substantially — what remains is smaller and more discreet.
The remaining strip clubs operate under UK sexual entertainment venue (SEV) licensing. The Windmill, with its legitimate burlesque history dating to the 1930s, and a handful of other venues continue to operate. Expect cover charges and a drinks-minimum structure.
Shoreditch and the Docklands have newer adult-venue clusters at the industrial edges. The central London scene is closer to burlesque and cabaret (legitimate theater) than strip-club in the American sense.
